I finally thought of a sort of tentative title for this thing.  Its working title is now Low, Lower, Lowest, . . .

I don’t know if titles can even have ellipses in them.  We’ll just have to see.  Thanks to strugglingwriter‘s marvelous wordpress knowledge I now have a cool widget to the right that charts my progress.

Nice working title. Can you get any lower?
Good Luck looks like you should be burning the mignight oil.

Thank you for your kind comments, David. The title is borrowed from a joke I once saw on a bathroom wall at the University here in town. It is a joke that goes like this:

Low
Lower
Lowest
Lowell

And it dates (actually scrawled/chisled into a marble partition) from the days, I think, when this town was considerably more depressed and dangerous, probably the mid 1970s.

It will make more sense, I hope, as the novel begins to take a darker turn.
