I was just cleaning up a little and unearthed a project that I had started last semester (yes, I still tend to think in those terms), a duck call, below, with pocket clip attached.
Sorry the picture is so bad. It is made from a drinking straw. Simply flatten and crease one end, then cut so that it makes two triangular reeds. That’s the part you put in your mouth, same principle as an oboe or bassoon.
I was going to try to remember to carry this thing down into the tunnels below various north-campus buildings and, when no one was looking, make a duck call. It’s not that I think I’ll find any ducks. I was just toying with the idea of starting some weird campus legend about a carnivorous tunnel-duck. Wow, that looks so strange when I actually write it down. . .
So I’ll give it a go.
